I reach explorer
« on: November 02, 2015, 06:07:13 AM »
I\'m looking to get the in reach explorer so that I don\'t have to come off the mountain to say hi to the wife. Plus the SPOT has proven to be garbage anyway. it looks like a good product except the GPS is very limited. What do you guys think?

Something I have heard when subscribing to a continuous billing is to use a \'PrePaid VISA\'
Figure out how many months you want to pay for and load that amount.

When the money runs out, no more fees.

I havent done it, but it sounds like it would work

SPOT\'s internal antenna does not pickup a signal in a dense pine forest or in a hell hole. Plus, it is a yearly cost. I will be switching to inReach.

Brad\'s idea may work.  Normally, InReach does not stop the billing automatically.  When I signed up, they were told, I wanted August through September, but they were going to go on charging, if I did not contact them to shut it off.  Actually I found it more time consuming and bureaucratic than I liked.  You can go back to their web page and get instructions on shutting off service and stop payment, but if you wait until the end, they have already generated a charge to your credit card.  I like the InReach itself, but I don\'t like their service.  I suspect it is designed to run up charges you don\'t want or expect.

I have the In-reach and really, really like it. IMO it outperforms the Spot not only in performance but also in costs.

I had no problems suspending the service online when I am done using it. Pay the low yearly fee, and turn on the subscription during hunting season and turn it off when I am done.
