I tried to this year, but the older cam my dad let me use didn't work... I would like to use them in the future though.

Yes, we love trail cameras and run them year round.  I love being able to see what I can't see when I can't be in the woods.

I run 3 cameras in my elk hunting area.  I spread them out over high use corridors and water holes.  I know there are elk there but my goal is to try to get a look at the quality of elk.

Typically, I don't run trail cams.  This year while trying to pack in as many hunts and harvests as I can, I realized I need trail cams.  I hunt thick forested areas for blacktail and black bear. I'll be running trail cams this year to help locate and pattern animals. I like the idea of cellular capable and solar powered to minimize maintenance and time gathering intel.

I run em to year round on our leased farm land.. seen some good shots of bucks, coons, Yotes, turkeys, and a bob cat which we dont see at all in Northern IL!!

Best part is showing my nephews  6 and 7 the pics and videos of the animals in true form.

Also caught some yahoo running dogs for bird or rabbit or whatever across our land the week before bow season...

Running trail cameras has never been one of my strategies for elk hunting.  Ive always wanted to try one up in my early season high buck area.  Maybe someday🤞

I have one I bought not too long ago. So far, I've only used it in my backyard,  but it has been interesting to see what comes through.

I put several out every year, mainly to get an idea what the travel times are. Theyre great not only to see whats coming to a wallow or food plot, but when. Theyre also great at making you mad about picking the wrong stand!
Weve been using trail timers since the late 80s on bear baits. Told us what time something hit the bait but not what.
Weve come a long way.

I usually only run them for whitetails, in new places where I dont have time to scout. If I know there are deer there already, its like it ruins the surprise to set up cameras.

Not sure why I dont, I borrowed a friends once and really enjoyed looking at the deer pics. Saw a few bucks that I never saw during daylight hours.

I ran them in the past but I fell off the wagon a few years ago.  I do plan on getting some newer models this year and starting again.   Its always nice to know whats in area or not in the area.

Its also a fun activity to get the kids out and excited for hunting season
