Elk in burns

Hey everyone.This September ill be in a unit were there's a fairly new burn . My question is ,is there a sweet spot when it comes to how old a burn is and elk using it ?thanks

In my experience it's more about how hot the fire got. If the blaze was very hot it'll take longer for new growth to pop up and from what I've seen longer for animals to come back. If the burn wasn't crazy hot they'll be back in there the following year.

Elk are creatures of the edge. Proximately to cover, water, and a path to escape that does no skyline them are areas to look for sign in.

I'll echo what Elk Noob said.  I've see burns a year old that were great and some that were 3 years old and still looked like the surface of the moon.  Best bet would be to get out there and scout it (hopefully without spooking any elk) before the season opens and take a look at the quality of the sign.
