rock n roll bud! you are shooting 20 fps faster than i was last year, and have 3% better foc. that being said, i will say this: keep your longest shot to 40 yards. i would like to see an ideal shot be under 30 with that setup. rib bones are not your friend with that setup. make sure you run a solid 2 blade for maximum penetration and clearance around ribs. have fun!
I dont know how I figured 420 grains. Its more like 488 grains.

Question:  Do you still have to draw in order to hunt with an outfitter?

Physical Conditioning / Calories

So going on my first elk hunt in September southern Colorado. I have dropped almost 70 lbs and am still working on getting into better shape. My question is as follows:  How many calories do you think you burn during the day?  We are backpacking in and will be there for 7 days

Well after much consideration and having two of my existing arrow break(my fault), I went and bought a dozen easton fmj 340 5mm.  my weight now is 420 grains with a  12% foc

I was going to just use what I had but had two of them break one hit the fence lol and the other one has a crack. I only had six to begin with so. I just figured I would try something a little different and a little heavier

Do those that hunt both whitetail and elk use the same set up for both?  I normally just hunt whitetail but am going on my first elk hunt this year. I am upgrading my arrows from the carbon maxima red to Easton 5mm fmj. Using 125 grain striker v2 from g5

Thank you all for your responses.  I am going to play around with my arrows and add some trimmer line and see what I can do with that.  Again thanks for helping out a newbie.

Here's a great video series Corey put together last year. Good intro stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zMW6w1Drb8

Ive watched that video twice now.  Just learning how to control the pressure of my tongue on it.  I knew it was hard to do but just not how hard. lol

So I got a diaphragm call, bugle tube and a single reed call from Rocky Mountain elk calls. I can make sounds with the diaphragm (sounds like a squeaky mouse lol) but am making sounds. Any tips for sounding like an elk

Thanks.  I have been practicing out to 50. I think I may just go with it this year and upgrade next year to a heavier one

This will be my first time elk hunting and everything I read says 400 grains and up. I am also going to be using 100 grain four blade muzzys
