« on: July 26, 2019, 01:52:28 PM »
Ok hears the deal. Ya'll pray for me and my wife since we are planning a road trip to Ft Jackson South Carolina to see our older grandson graduate from basis training and visit with some friends and family that live out that way... I have 2 weeks of rehab under my belt and 30 more to go...
If I survive this one :-D we might even try one in the other direction a bit later...
Leaving Monday...

Campfire / Old motor getting a bit more sluggest
« on: June 29, 2019, 08:23:13 PM »
I started out with a roaring V8. Then dropped a bit to a purring slant 6. And then to a sluggest inline 4. Well now the sluggest inline 4 has lost a cylinder and become a spitting 3...

Needless to say over the last 10 to 15 years I've gone from roaring (100%) to spitting (32%) when it come to lung capacity plus it's starting to effect my heart output...

Another 12 weeks of Cardio-Pulmonary rehab is being scheduled starting in July...

Deer season starts in October for me and I'll be there even if I have to crawl to my stand, if the good Lord sees fit....

Thank God for another year of hanging around and being a pest to so many different folks...

I just got around to looking at the last camera cards the kids pulled and there he was 11-22-2018... So I'll look forward to another year for him to robbing my feeder... He's getting pretty old since I had pictures of him dating back to 2015 and he was an adult back then...

Other Big Game Hunting / Back from a 9 days at deer camp
« on: November 18, 2018, 03:38:01 PM »
I'm getting to ol' for this thing everyone calls hunting..
Long story short version.
8:13 (checked my trusty Timex) opening morning of our modern gun deer season... Had a big ol' good un (tall and wide for our neck of the woods) walking towards me in my right side shooting lane (now known as The Hole in the Wall)... Crosshairs on him... Safety off... Waiting patiently for him to make that fatal turn into either thicket on either sides of the lane... It's happened a bunch of time before without fail and a bunch of bucks have met their maker when they did so... Did I forget to say I don't really like frontal shots on our little whitetails we have in south Arkansas... Anyway, the lane is 265 yards long and he came out at the far end of it... Closer and closer and closer he came until he got to within somewhere in the neighborhood of 125 yards... He stopped and looked to the right and then back to the left showing me he was a GOOD 8 point at least... Still waiting patiently for his body to do them same... Then he decided to nibble a little on the attempt of a food plot we had prepared for the deer and turkey... Nibble here. Nibble there. Nibble everywhere never turning his body... Patients wearing thin and I was getting a bit tired of holding my 270 Tikka T3 lite in the same position for as long as I had... I figured he was enjoying his nibbling so ol' wore out Ol' Arky lifted his head and leaned back just a tad and catching a split second of relax time... If you haven't figured out by now Murphy's Law took charge... What could go wrong relaxing a couple of seconds??? It did cause when I settled the crosshairs back on him all I could see was the north half of a south bound buck disappearing into the thicket on the right side of the shooting lane never to return to that spot the rest of the 8 days I set there and watched for him and watched for him and watched for him...
Now don't get me wrong, I did see a lot of other deer of which several were small legal bucks... But I just could bring myself to even lift up my trusty rifle much less put the crosshairs on one...
I did get to hunt with one of my younger grandsons and just got a text from my oldest son that my little buddy killed a 10 point at 2:55 this afternoon.. :upthumb: :upthumb: :upthumb:
My 9 days at deer camp are now complete...
I had the privilege to get to go and now have the privilege of knowing my little buddy has killed the deer he wanted to kill while hunting with me but it ended up being with his dad...
So for me, hope to go back Thanksgiving weekend. Watch that "Hole in the Wall" along with the "Valley of Death" and the other unnamed lane for now a while longer and see if ol' Lucky will show up again and hope that Ol' Arky will be the lucky one when he does...
And yes I haven't felt good BUT I'm gratefully for the privilege to be there and enjoy being there....

If your wondering how I came up with "Hole in the Wall", I noticed while watching ol Lucky walk down the lane that this year 2 large pine trees have spread there limbs making a canopy over the lane looking like a circle... So ol' Lucky walked thru the "Hole in the Wall" and lived through it...

To be continued!!!!!!

Other Big Game Hunting / muzzleloader season
« on: October 19, 2018, 11:31:10 AM »
The 2018 Arkansas muzzleloader deer season starts in the morning but for the 1st time in more years than I want to say, I want be out there with the rest of my friends.. My wife and I are going to make a trial drive down to the deer camp tomorrow but it will be just for the day and not to hunt... If all goes well tomorrow I hope we can go back Monday and hunt a few days but not the rest of the 9 day season... We'll just have to see how things work out...

I don't need this to be a trend since I've missed early teal season 2 years in a row...

Scouting / Trail Cameras / Pic of the crew in my hunt area
« on: October 10, 2018, 01:51:51 PM »
I know it ain't elk BUT it's all I got for now, hopefully...

Here's what I have pictures of so far this year plus a smaller 6 point that has the exact same rack but smaller...

While still in velvet.

Same shedding velvet.

Same hard antlers.

I hope this isn't the same 6 point I let walk last year since his antlers are a LOT smaller this year.

Campfire / Think I need a new cardiologist
« on: August 17, 2018, 10:05:13 PM »
Wednesday morning early. Laying on a stretcher in the local ER. After taking the so-called maximum dose of nitroglycerin. IV with heparin drip in my right arm and nitroglycerin patch on my chest. A dose of morphine shot into my IV. In he comes and the first words out of his mouth were "How you doing"... HOW THE HECK DO YOU THINK I'M DOING...
Long story shortened. Still in the same position, less the morphine, and in a hospital bed. The last words out of his mouth were "Everything good"... HOW IN THE HECK CAN EVERYTHING BE GOOD? I'M THE ONE LAYING IN THIS BED AND FEELING I'VE BEEN ATTCAKED BY AN IRATE PORCUPINE AND I'M "GOOD"....

Ok I got that off my chest along with the nitro patch...  How's everyone else??? Not "GOOD" I hope...  But great!!!! :upthumb: :upthumb:

As you may have already guessed I'm home but not a happy camper... :help2: :help2:

Almost forgot... They tried to bleed me out when they remove the IV.. Must have forgot that was heparin that was pumped into me for the last 24+hours..

My right arm looked like I'd forgot my gun while going to a knife fight... :haha: :haha:

Campfire / Headed to deer camp
« on: August 01, 2018, 02:17:38 PM »
My wife and I are headed down to the deer camp in the morning early... We have fall weather in August and are going to attempt to at least start to make an impossible task possible... We have a small artesian spring that crosses the valley of death shooting lane in front of our stand... It's not impossible to cross with a Ranger or other ATV but is very hard for a tractor and bush hog and virtually impossible with other larger vehicles (unless Dan or my oldest son are driving of course :haha:) So a bridge is in the making...
So if you don't hear from me in a few days send my wife and family flowers...
But I am feeling better and doing a lot more than I have been... We've, my wife and I, have almost got us another stand big enough for the two of us built.. So we'll see how these bridge and new stand projects proceed in the coming weeks and months...

Campfire / My wife is planning a roadtrip...
« on: June 13, 2018, 02:51:34 PM »
As the title says she wants for both of us to go back out west...

I've actually been feeling better and virtually pain free for a while now...

The 24/7/365 oxygen is one BIG obstacle along with the long drive...

But who knows... As a quote from Angles in the Outfield says "It could happen."

Campfire / In and out...
« on: April 25, 2018, 02:56:51 PM »
I've been MIA for a while now but try to check in when I can... In and out of the hospital... Mainly out but still unable to resolve the chest pain problem I've been having for a while... Looking at several different things but haven't been able to pin it down yet... So NO rehab since minor exercise doesn't work to well right now...
Thanks for you guys and gals thoughts and prayers... Like I told all my good friends at our deer camp, I'm still fighting and will continue to do so....

Campfire / Slow go...
« on: March 20, 2018, 03:32:50 PM »
Been around but haven't posted much... Still recouping from the birthday thing but did find out some more good news... My CABG surgeon looked at the disc of the hearth cath and said all my graphs looked amazingly good to be 16 years old and said there was no need for another CABG surgery... :upthumb: :upthumb:
No rehab yet since they are still trying to get everything back half way regulated again before they start that...
Wanting badly to go to the deer camp but haven't been able to get out and about as much as I want to...
Ya'll keep it up since I'll will be hunting thru your eyes again this spring and fall except for a deer or 2...
