Hmm, I have below average luck in drawing tags most years.

I did draw an Oklahoma cow elk tag this year so maybe my luck is changing...

Im sorry youre going through this.

You might consider some professional help, maybe more along the lines of a sports psychologist instead of regular therapist.

Other than that you might have to find a way on your own to make peace with this. That could be anything from getting a new bow and/or arrows to just spending more time around archery.

Pretty much everyone has had an issue come up in our archery journeys. Think back to any of those issues and how you worked past them.

Well be cheering for your to get back into archery and feeling good about it.

In my part of Texas pretty much all public land bans motorized vehicles so its all either water or walk in access. Ive called the local sheriff office or game warden (depending on property) multiple times so Id say report all illegal travel.

General Elk Hunting / Tire chains

We are hunting southern Wyoming for the last two weeks of September.

We are driving up from Texas and think it might be a good idea to have tire chains in case of an unexpected snow storm.

Weve never had cause to use chains down here and I have no idea about types. Doing a quick search I see some cheaper ones that say cable tire chains. Those make me wonder if Im getting what I pay for...

Any thoughts about type to get or advice?

This was a doe I took last weekend. Unfortunately I didnt draw the tag I was after, so decided to add some more meat to the freezer.

Congrats!

So Ive have a busy couple of weeks. I have vacation to burn most years and I took off two weeks to start December.

I tried getting on a draw hunt in the Texas hill country, but didnt get on. Theres nearby open public hunting and I had 2 1/2 days to try and get on some deer. It took until Thursday night before I got a shot. Unfortunately, I hit the buck back. With the Texas night time temps I thought I had to try and find him that night. It didnt work out so I paddled back up river again Friday morning and found the buck on a gravel bar in the river so I was able to tag my first archery deer and first buck.

This week I was able to get on a kind of population control hunt in a state park. They need mouths off so I wasnt bothered with the idea of shooting an obviously young and small doe. I was surprised to see something hanging down between the legs of this little button buck, but thats how it goes sometimes.

The following day the staff moved me into one of the camp loops to help cut down the population in that part of the park. I had several groups of deer come in l, but I was trying to wait for the perfect shot opportunity since they would open the park to regular visitors that evening. About 9:30 a pair of does come across the field and the bigger one gives me a shot at about 22 yards. I hit her a smidge higher and two ribs back of what I intended. She ran 60 yards and dropped right next to a parking pad.

So I went from never filling an archery deer tag to filling three in six days. Heading out to some more open public hunting land with my hunting partner tomorrow with tags still left on my license...
