Archery / Building your own arrows
« on: February 07, 2019, 10:05:18 AM »
I have been interested in starting to build my own arrows. So I was curious who builds their own arrows, and what the benefit is over ordering them online or getting them from a shop

For me that is my one big complaint about the Metcalf is the lac of pockets to keep your stuff organized. I have a kuiu icon pro and I love the pockets it has in it. But it doesn't carry weight as nice as my Metcalf

I feel like they are probably fairly similar

I was curious how the Exo 5500 stacks up against the Mystery Ranch Metcalf. I have the Metcalf, but being a lover of packs and after watching the born and raised outdoors series and seeing them perform for those guys it got me wondering if anyone has used both and had some input on how they compare to each other?

Trekking poles is something I have been kicking around. That's one thing I don't have but from reading and doing some research seems to be pretty helpful when bringing out the meat.  But I am in a similar boat Wyo, I have tried a few different types from people I know who backpack and use them and can't quite seem to feel comfortable when using them. My plan for my pack is actually quite similar to yours, just that I am using a 3L camel back instead of 1L.

Hunting Gear / What do you carry for a day hunt?

I was curious what everyone packs in their day pack for hunting from a base camp and going out for the day? I went on an archery elk hunt last year and packed way to much stuff everyday because I wasn't sure what I would actually need or use, so for our rifle hunt this year I want to cut back on what I bring out with me. I have a general idea what I am going to bring. Just looking for other ideas and to compare loads. It will be first rifle season in Colorado

I was thinking I would have to layer smartly, just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be left looking the marshmallow man because they didn't stay quite warm enough. and my other thought was I wanted to make sure that if it was a little on the warmer side I wouldn't be roasting in them

Trying to bring the best all around outer layer for 1st rifle for Colorado. Does anyone have any experience with the guide pants and jacket? Hoping it is warm enough for chilly temps but not so warm that I will be sweating and end up cold while glassing

That was kind of what I figured, just watch and try to plan that way. Thanks for all the responses. Trying to learn from the mistakes I made in planning for Utah last year.
