Clueless, thanks for the information. I was looking for someone down that way that could drop me off some mesquite wood for knife handles if they were hunting in northwest Colorado.

Have a safe trip Phil. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

I heard that copperhead that bit you up and died. So I know you are tough enough to make the trip. :) Praying for you and yours.

Go east of Ridgway over Owl Creek Pass. After you go over the pass, stay on the main road until you see a sign that says Turrent Ridge. Park there and go straight up the mountain to your left. Believe it or not, but the 10,000 ft. contour line on your map is an elk trail that goes from one meadow to another all along the back face of the ridge..

Extra water is extra weight! You might consider a filter if you are in an area where you can refill

Wyo67: The only difference between chuckles and those hard thumping grunts you are talking about is the amount of voice inflection and emotion you put into it.

Get on YouTube and look at Corey's dad, Rockie Jacobsen. He has a great video on using the diaphragm elk call. I'll bet it will help you out!

Just curious! But if you remove the insulation, wouldn't that make them looser fitting and possibly cause them to slip and slide on your feet and cause blisters?

I wore Mucks on my Alaska hunt. They worked great in the muskeg and when climbing in and out of the boat.

Cnelk is a regular on here. Maybe he can give you some info. If not I'll bet he knows someone that hunts the area.

I have a brand spank'n new pair of Danner Elk Hunter boots in size 8 1/2 I'd make you a good deal on. I won them in an elk calling contest and have no use for them.

Ever hear of tire chains? Don't leave home without them! And yes, if it snows you can be in deep DO-DO real quick. Don't much matter if the road is paved or not. Also a tow strap, shovel, and handy man jack would be advisable.
