Title: What is your ATV choice?
Post by: MT_mulies on December 10, 2015, 12:02:06 PM
What is your ATV and why? I'm in the hunt for a new 4wheeler and looking to see what everyone else has? If you have something that isn't listed let me know. And if you do have one of the ATV's listed let me know what make and model it is. If you would also include Pros and Cons to your own rig let me know. I don't want any bashing going on because this is like the ford vs chevy vs dodge debate. I just want to get a general idea. I'm leaning towards a honda rancher, foreman, or rincon.

Have 2 Ranchers and a Rubicon, they are all bomb proof.

My family and I all use Honda's now. I have ridden a Polaris and a Yamaha and wasn't impressed with either. Any popular name brand will probably be fine but for me it's a Honda.

I use an old 2004 Suzuki eiger 400. Nice light quad that can go through most stuff and sometimes when I am stuck I can lift the backend up and throttle which will get it outand saves me winching. With a heavy load it is a little underpowered. My next quad will have more power but I will probably keep this one too.

been using the Yamaha grizzly for the past 15 years and its been flawless over 8000 hard miles, and plan on getting a Polaris Rzr side by side this year, If I was going to get a new 2up it would probably be a Can-am  , what ever brand you get make sure its a 2up or your going to be screwed if you ride in Montana and look up the law passed in 2007 it covers a lot of dumb stuff like how much weight you can carry such as you cant carry more weight than is labeled on the racks of the bike which means you cant legally carry a deer on most bikes and they are giving fines for it .

I don't use quads for hunting, but am on them often for work. I've had 2 polaris sportsman's and can't recommend them in good faith. I have an artic cat now that seems to do everything I ask it to.

Guys I know wiht both Honda's and Can-Ams have great things to say, Not doing any recreational riding I haven't had the need to upgrade yet but when I do I'll be looking at a Honda or CanAm

I run the can am 800 s.  Solid machines,  heard complaints about electrical issues but my wife and I both ride them and love em. Power houses.. bighorn 2.0 's and you can go can anywhere. I run a winch on one them for the occasional bad situation.

Will be going with the polaris trail 900 tho as an addition, hard to beat it when it comes to the side by sides.

Upgraded last year to an Artic Cat 550 with EFI and power steering.  Great machine.  No issue hauling out myself, adult son and a full cow elk.

Honda's are usually the most bulletproof but I drive a Polaris sportsman 850

Honda Pioneer 500! Same width as ATV but has a back on the seat and a steering wheel.

I have a 2008 Polaris Sportsman 500 and while it's great 90% of the time, I would never recommend it to anyone. The wiring design is awful as wires constantly rub and/or get snipped by the steering column when turning. The good news is I've had to learn way more about an ATV than I ever cared to know...which is also the bad news.

We had two Polaris 850's for a couple of years now, and love them.  More than enough power to blast down the straight aways, and climbs those steep rocky inclines pretty darned well.

Had a 300 Kawaski and a 500 Suzuki Vinson. Both good machines. The Vinson is a dream to ride as it is has a much better suspension. But the bigger the machine, the more tippy it is. I have to be a lot more careful on the bigger machine.

If you are getting a quad and don't want issues, get a Honda. If looking for a side by side I'd look at Yamaha, Honda,  John Deere and maybe CanAm.

After a few years of putting some expensive wear on my truck, I'm going to be picking up an ATV soon. I'm looking at the honda ranchers. Nothing crazy, just something to get me from point A to point B.

I'd LOVE to go buy a new side by side ranger, but I just don't have the room for it.

Polaris Rzr with a 50" wide wheel base.  Love mine!

I've still got my 1998 Polaris 300 Sportsman that is in pretty good shape for it's age but I gone completely to my 2010 Polaris Ranger 400HO midsize UTV... More comfort and room. Gets good gas mileage. And gets me to were I want to go and sometimes places I don't want to go again.. ;D ;D

You might look at the Polaris Ranger midsize. They don't make the 400HO anymore but  make something in to 500 to 600 range in the midsize... They say my 400HO will fit in the bed of a long wheel base pickup.. Never tried but looks like it would if I didn't have a trailer... But I'd hate to try and load it... ;) ;)

Suzuki king quad 750. Hasn't let me down yet. Other than that time I put gas with ethanol in it and let it sit. But that's more user error

Sta-Bil is a cheap alternative... I always treat my gas left in the tank after the season and again on the 1st tank full of the season...

White Polaris 570 with eps does the job for me.

Just purchased a 2011 Yamaha Grizzly 550.  Reason?  I've used my Dad's 350 for years and it's the most reliable ATV as far as always starts first try and shifting between F and R is much easier than the Polaris Sportsmans I've used.  Also like the clearance on the 550 since it's on the 700 frame and this one came with Power Steering which is really nice when navigating through tight spots.

I prefer the quads I was born with :-D , there is very little if any motorized access where I like to hunt with the exception of immediate trail head access. For that, the ole Ford Ranger gets me as far as I can go.
