Have a two burner camp chef with a griddle. Bacon ends & bits, chopped up potatoes, meat chopped up, some home made green or red chili, warm some tortillas, add some cheese, roll it up, and eat like kings. Chicken, pork, beef, elk, venison, all work well.

Do my grocery shopping at thr Walmart in Craig on my way up. Try to keep it easy.

GT Velocity Pro 300 with blazer vanes and 100 grain G5 striker broadhead. Just plain works.

Early morning trip to bakers draw shooting range with the 300wm followed with around of golf mid day.

In 231 if you go in from yampa to the end of the road at the gate at the end of Stillwater resivoir it is an 8 mile trail through the flat tops wilderness all the way to trappers lake. Will be quite a few people until Labor Day then pretty much have lots of space to yourself. Lots of side trails, water, meadows, black timber and there are elk in there.

Height of the animal from bottom of the sight. Took a few hundred arrows at the range to get it right. Backstops were large bales, 1-1/2 high is just about the vitals on an elk. Look through sight at different ranges and see how many pins high that is.

General Elk Hunting / Re: HOW FAR off the road do you elk hunt?
« on: July 26, 2018, 08:39:50 AM »
90% of all hunters hunt within one mile of the road. 90% of all animals taken are by 10% of all hunters. I hunt 1-1/2 to 5 miles off the road. Use the quad to get as far back as possible then use shoe leather for the day.
