Thanks.  We don't get out there until the 12th and it looks like it's going to cool down some by then.

How bad are the wild fires in SW Montana?  Are they affecting the hunting?

Great. Thanks a lot.  Will check those out and let you know. Montana has been really good to us for the last 3 years but Colorado is closer and we've been wanting to go there and check it out. Do you guys think that muzzle loader season affects bow hunting and we should go earlier or should we not worry about it?

So we hunted Montana the last 3 years and have bought leftover tags each year. Well this is the first year they have ever sold out of out of state tags. Need a back up plan quickly. Idaho or Colorado or anything else?

Has anyone ever parked in one state and walked into another state because it was a closer walk to where you hunted in the other state?  Do you need a hunting license in both states?

Thanks for all the advice.  Hunting the 12th-the 19th so I'll let yinz know how it goes.  I read that article about hunting the moon phases.  Good read.  I was out there 2 years ago this same week but it was the full moon.  The mid-day madness was also.

If you had to pick a week in SW Montana which would you pick for this year?  The week of Sept. 12th-19th or the 19th-26th?  The first week is out for me this year.

My thinking is you should return this gentleman's money. He booked a trip with you and tried  to get info from you all year with no response.  Then 2 week before his hunt you tell him he has to go somewhere different.  I don't blame him for booking with another outfitter.  How did you expect him to change his travel plans in 2 weeks or even rely on you being there if he does show up where he should?

General Elk Hunting / Snow after youshoot a bull
« on: September 21, 2013, 03:23:05 PM »
I was in Montana last week on my first elk hunt and shot a nice 6x6.  10 minutes after I shot him it started snowing and snowed 4 inches in the next 1/2 hour.  Not being able to find my arrow or any blood because the snow had the ground covered pretty good we just started walking in a grid around the area but never could find him.  Has anyone ever had this happen to them?  What do you do?  The best part is the next morning we went back in there to look for him some more and the other bull in the group was still in there bugling.  We got in on him and my buddy missed him at 21 yards.  Hit a twig.  He was the biggest bull we saw all week.  Maybe a 330 6x6.  Instead of coming home with 2 6x6 bulls we came home empty handed!!!
