Classifieds / EXO K2 Packs
« on: October 09, 2020, 09:59:08 AM »
I have 2 EXO packs 2200 & 3500 and 1 K2 Frame in FirstLite fusion for sale. I also have a lid, 2 hip belt pouches and the add on meat shelf. The meat shelf is in Multicam. The 3500 pack has never been in the woods, the 2200 has been my go to day pack and has packed out 2 elk. You cant get these size packs anymore. I think these are the best carrying packs on the market and if you are a back country hunter who hunts with camp on his back you cant find a better pack. I hunt 90% from a from my camp trailer with a day pack. So I feel its best to sell them to someone wholl use them for their designed purpose. If youve wanted to have EXO packs heres your chance to save some cash. Im asking $600.00 delivered. Retail youd pay over $950.00. Save the extra $350.00 for your next hunt. I can take Venmo, PayPal, check or cash.

Have you ever asked that question? To be honest I never had I always pull my cameras out during the archery season in sept. Last year however was different. I put out 4 cameras on August 22 in one of my areas so I could have a good idea some of the elk numbers in the area. I had the 1st two weeks off work for the season. My wife's grandmother's health started to go down hill the 1st of Sept. and she passed during my time off. With everything going on and since I do not hunt rifle season I never made it back up last year so the cameras were left to wait. We had a lot of snow this winter and even late snow falls in the spring. I called the NFS just before June to see if I could get in to that area yet. They said not for a few more weeks. So I finally made it back up this last weekend. The 1st one I checked on had been stolen. I thought that might happen with that one. The next one I went after was 3 miles one way from the nearest road so I was pretty sure it would still be there. The only question did it survive the winter and if it did would it work and would there be any pics. I'll let you be the judge!

« on: July 05, 2015, 08:08:03 AM »
The 2 friends I mostly hunt with have taken new jobs and will not have any vacation time for elk season this year. So I am looking for a new partner for this archery season. I hunt units 19A, 23 and 24 of the McCall zone. I will hunt from a base camp or bivy camp what ever it takes to find the elk. I leave camp in the dark and come back in the dark. Newbies are welcome to apply to be my partner. I will be going up on 7/9-7/11 to put out game cameras. Anyone interested in coming up and seeing some of the area is welcome.  Click the link to see some pics.

Here are a few pics from one of the 2 cameras I put out on 7/11. My parents checked it for me a week later and on the 18th there were over 2500 pics. After going through them there were 1838 with game on them. This was put on a good trail I found last year while hunting. I put some salt out to make sure they would stop so I could get some good pics.

Hunt Planner / Would you hunt this spot?
« on: February 16, 2014, 11:46:23 PM »
This is a spot I hunted last season. Had a pretty good bull going but it didn't work out. I plan to hunt it again this season and just wondered if you saw it on Google Earth would you hunt it or scout it. The large meadow is just over 1 mile from the nearest road cross country, no trails, except game trails. The meadow is over 400 yds. long and the small meadow is a 1/2 mile further in and have 3 nice wallows in it. 2 you can see in the Google earth pic. One of the attached pics is from a game cam I put on a game trail where the cross the creek. The other pic I took of one of the wallows in the small meadow. I plan to scout the dark timber on the South side of the large valley this summer. Let me know what you think.

Hunting Gear / New GPS or Tablet with a GPS app?
« on: February 06, 2014, 06:08:32 AM »
So I am trying to decide between a new GPS or Tablet. I have a Garmin Oregon 400T that I've had since 2009 that I really like. I'm looking at the Garmin Montana 600 or a 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. I want to be able to take a pic and have it saved as a waypoint. I know the Garmin will do it but not so sure about the Samsung. Would like to here if you have tried both and what are your thoughts.

These are all different area in the units I hunt. A few of them I have scouted and hunted. But I plan to scout those some more and also a few new areas. I am curious if these were your areas which ones would you choose to hunt and scout? It's a 3 hour drive there but I plan to camp and scout them twice a month from June to Aug with the family.
I know the pics do not have a lot of detail but hopefully you can get an idea of the layout of the areas. If you want any more details of an area let me know and I'll post them. Elevation of the areas are around 5500-7000 ft. Let me know what you think.

Scouting / Trail Cameras / scouting trip
« on: July 29, 2013, 01:42:16 AM »
Well I spent this weekend camping and scouting with my 3 older kids. After looking at my topos and Google Earth I picked a few spots I wanted to check out. My 12 year old daughter who starts Hunters Ed tonight did 5 miles with me on Sat. I jumped a nice 6x6 Sunday morning at 6:27. I also ran into a sheepherder from Peru. I asked him if he spoke English he said no just Spanish. I thought great I speak fluent Spanish lets see if he has seen any Elk. Since I knew the word of deer and not elk I said I was looking for deer but bigger. His reply was oh "Elka" I said si. He told me that his camp was a mile up the trail and when I got up that morning there were 3 Bulls fighting in the meadow where he was camped. I marked that spot on the map! Here are some pics of the area and the sign. Pic 27 is a meadow 1.2 miles from the main road.
