General Elk Hunting / Single Bevel 2x Blade
« on: February 25, 2018, 04:58:50 PM »
Hi Guys, Im prepping for my bi-yearly trip from UK to the Colorado Rockies for Elk Archery Season, I'm yet to get my first Elk, but I'm certain thing will happen when they're supposed too.
My question is, I'm looking at switching from my 125grn Slick tricks and 125grn VPA Terminator 3x blade to a 125grn single bevel 2x blade BH, but cannot afford the Grizzly Stick or Ashby. Anybody use a single bevel 125grn and if so, what do you use, why and would you recommend.

Elk Hunting Tips & Tactics / High pressure area's
« on: May 19, 2014, 04:21:53 AM »
So I'm gonna be hunting Unit45 in Colorado a high pressure hunting area, in the last week of September. I know where the Elk hang out, but never seem to get close enough as the bowl they hang in is susceptible to swirly winds. What's my best plan of action, persist or check out other area's in the Unit, as I know there are Elk in them there woods. I really try some calling out and best my chances.

Id like to film more of my hunt this year,  I have a Sanyo Xacti CG10 780p HD as a back up video, but would like something 1080p HD and better suited for the job. What do you guys use or what would you recommend around the $700 range. Ive thought about a 2nd hand Canon DSLR or a Canon N52 camcorder..... Thought's?

General Elk Hunting / What you doing?
« on: May 03, 2014, 11:39:21 AM »
So Guys, I live in the UK and each September I travel over to hunt OTC Elk in Colorado with my American friends, but in the 11 months and 2 weeks that I'm stuck over here, I sit watching Elk hunting DVD's, practicing with my set-up, pondering over Google Earth and my Maps and talking to my friends about the season to come.
How do you spend your time when season is only 4months away, are you preparing, getting excited. How would you handle only hunting for 9days of a year in a country where Bowhunting is not legal :(?...... Its frustrating believe me.

General Elk Hunting / Tripods for Binoculars
« on: June 20, 2013, 04:45:44 AM »
Ok Guys,
This will be my third Elk Hunt, so I'm not a complete novice, but need guidance  on getting the right gear for multiday, overnight hunting, we normally use a base camp and set off from there every morning, however this time, I want to stay high and where the Elk are. I have all the gear needed for camping, but I need one specific item to complete my kit list...... TRIPOD. I'm hunting Elk in Colorado opening week of Archery season, but rather than taking a spotting scope, I'm just gonna stick with my Bino's. My question is what size Tripod do you guys take out with you, I've been looking at this one, but before buying would like to know your thoughts on Compact Tripods or what Tripods others are using as a reference. The model I'm looking at is the Hama Traveller Mini Pro Tripod, will this be suitable as most of my glassing will be sat down or should I go for the slightly larger Hama Traveller Compact model or a different make, model or size?, we are DIY hunting and overnighting on the Mountains, so weight and space is gonna be paramount in packing my gear.
Your help would be much appreciated  ;)
