Hunting Gear / Re: Wall Tent Pole Bag - What Do You Use?
« on: July 11, 2020, 09:04:47 AM »
For the last several years, I've been using a top load canvas duffel bag from an army surplus store. I think it cost around $20, and it's been surprisingly tough. It holds all of my poles together, however the longer ones hang out of the top about a foot.

Congratulations!  Looks like a good size bear. A great shot always makes the experience that much better too.

"The Huntin Fool" youtube channel has a pack review video that you may want to watch. They test out multiple packs and tell you what they like and don't like.

I really like the QAD ultra rest. I've used it for a year now with no problems.

General Elk Hunting / Re: Making Coffee In Camp

I make "cowboy coffee". Dump coffee grounds in the pot with water and use a jet boil. Let it come to a full boil, which is only a couple of minutes. Then remove from heat and give it a shot of cold water. It will make the grounds settle to the bottom and you get a pretty clean cup of coffee.

Hunting Gear / Re: Reloading
« on: February 12, 2019, 07:22:48 PM »
My parents got me a reloading kit for Christmas when I was in high school. It was one of the best presents I ever got. It came with a Speer reloading manual that gave excellent instructions and advice. I recommend it to anyone. It kept me from blowing myself up all these years. It's a great skill to learn. There are a lot of great bullets and powders out there that let you customize exactly what you want.
