Archery / Ultimate predator antelope decoy
« on: June 10, 2019, 02:08:10 AM »
Ive got an antelope Montana decoy for my hunt this year but since the place Im going doesnt allow blinds wondering if this bow mounted decoy would be more useful?

Anyone use one for antelope?

Recommendations on buck or doe?

Hunting Gear / Base camp question
« on: May 07, 2019, 07:28:34 AM »
Am looking at a lightweight camper that could also be used as base camp for wife to stay while I do 2-3 night bivy hunts in CO and WY.  Would this be a camper be usable?
It's an Aliner evolution. Think it will fit well with other camping I hope to do.  Looking for multi pupose.

Just curious on your guys input.

Hunting Gear / Antelope stalking with bow
« on: April 03, 2019, 11:19:18 AM »
Anyone chased antelope with a bow wearing that silly looking antelope decoy hat? Or that shoot through decoy that attaches to front of your bow?  They look a lot more user friendly for bow hunting solo.
Drew an AZ tag this year and looks like way more fun than sitting in a blind all day.

Anyone have dealings with bigBo ranch?

General Elk Hunting / Co unit 66 vs 67
« on: March 18, 2018, 08:58:30 PM »
Anyone care to recommend 66 vs 67.   I've got 3 points now but was wondering if 66 was worth waiting a couple more years to get or should I just go for 67 this year and call it good.
From what I've seen stats/sucess is better in 67 but looks like lots more elk in 66.
Plus looks like 67 is tougher country with more area away from roads.  Having a horse or drop camp would be better or at least a backup plan for help toting an elk out?  Don't have horse so looking for words of wisdom from anyone more familiar with CO.

All of them........

Well my pocket book feels like it.

4 elk - 1 = 3 now.
2 lope -1 = 1 now
3 MD. -1 = 2 now.

From memory my research showed I had 60-70% chance but never know how many extra folk throw in year to year.

will be bow hunting, if it works out and the wife goes will probably be there 16-20 days depending on punching a tag.  am flexible on the dates, but would like to catch the rut and this year the moon will be better toward the middle of Sep so that is what I'm thinking now.
Ive found a couple reasonable places but they are in units that I didn't like the stats of.

Hunting Gear / This happened to me .... or what not to do....

Im ready to hear some comic relief....

So I just started a new job and they found out I'm going out west this year and one guy that expressed interest about going told me he had been to CO one time before.

When we talked about gear he said he had bought a 45$ all weather, snow proof, rain proof, wind proof, you name it jam up backpacking lighter just for their back country trip.    When he got up on the mountain he never got it to light, not once in 7 days.  Had to bum a light from his buddies with their 99c bics.   Soon as he got back to the truck and ever since it has never failed to light first try.

Said he didn't think there could possibly be that many jokes about overpaying for non working lighters.

The wife understands that ill be gone a lot but she just wants to get away.  Am hoping to go out and find a place to make 2-4 day bivy loops then head back to visit the wife, take a shower and maybe wash clothes before doing it again.

found a place near unit 28 that sounds good but the dates there would be perfect for and early hunt opening day to around sep 8th.   this would be ok but id like to hit the rut better.  my NM trip was early both years and the action was definitely ramping up towards my end of hunt times.  Granted Im not expecting near the vocal action in an OTC CO unit as I got in NM.

jstephens61  Is the house your friends have in town or out, also have to find a place that will allow pets, another headache in itself but i can't leave my buddy behind.
