Anybody have any experience with them. Pros? Cons? It will be used for a base camp bag the last 2 weeks of September. I currently have a kelty 20 degree bag and slept cold in it last fall. Granted last fall I had a cheapo vinyl tent and this year I bought a kodiak canvas.

ive never set foot in 36b. i can tell you that i have seen zero grizzly sign in 36a. one of the packers said that he "wasnt foolin around this year"(2018) and brought his long gun for wolves. elk were hard to find until the magical day they all piped a bugle, and then the next day they were quiet again. I havent been back there for several years, but im probably going to this year and have purchased a wolf tag with plans to fill it. My take on it is if you are used to hunting washington odds, it doesnt matter if you pick the worst or the best unit in all of idaho, you are going to have a good hunt. one of the biologists told us a unit we considered deer hunting had low numbers of deer...he said you might only see 30 deer in a day. I need not go down the rabbit hole of poor game managment in washington, but suffice it to say that i might see 30 deer in 10 days if i count several of the same deer twice. I say it doesnt matter what is in 36b...anything is better than washington.

General Elk Hunting / Idaho 36-B

I just purchased otc elk and deer tags for 36B in Idaho. Im seeking info on if grizzlies are a problem or concern from people with firsthand experience in the unit. Also if the elk are silent in the rut due to wolves. Any advice is appreciated as this will be the first time in this unit.
Thanks

Thanks. It's a debate I and probably overthinking at this point. Pick a unit with more minuses but I can spend twice to three times the amount of time in or pick a statistically better unit that time will be more limited.  I am in for the second draw now so that may help dictate what I do.  Thanks for all the feedback

Found out I drew the muzzleloader tag I applied for!  Looks like i'll be in units 21,31,30,32.  If anyone has any info they'd like to pass on that would be awesome,  my buddy can't go on the trip now so i'm probably looking at hunting alone which im sure will make it way more difficult.  Either way i'm pumped!

Haven't hunted 28, but your thinking isn't bad at all (in conjunction with other plans).
I have some areas far from the front range that I hunt and that are noticeably better than areas within an hour of work/home, but I like having some areas scouted close to home just in case I can bust out of work early and get some short hunts in close to home.

Thanks for the info. Kind of what I figured. I am looking at a few other units as well but keeping an eye on 28 just do to the amount of time I can spend for scouting and quick access for additional hunt time.  The amount of deadfall/ blowdown was crazy for sure, but a couple of the areas I saw trudged through had obvious signs Elk have been in there. Getting one out of there may be a whole other story. Planning on scouting around another unit this weekend.

Not a unit I would really hunt. I was in there last year a couple times and there is a ton of pressure and not a lot of Elk.

I got into elk, but the terrain they were in was nasty. Lots of blowdown/deadfall. It's also one of the closer units to me, so I may go back to my spot from last year at some point, but I would definitely look elsewhere, most of the hunters I talked to had not see anything.
