Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Anthony Spencer had the good fortune of having some of the world’s best blacktail deer hunting a short walk out his back door. He spent much of his childhood roaming those dense woods hunting deer, and developed a strong passion for hunting at an early age. Anthony has been shooting a bow since he was five, and started bowhunting as soon as he was legally able to at 12.

Anthony successfully took his first elk the fall after he graduated high school, and every fall since has been dominated by bowhunting elk. In 2006, he started hunting with childhood friends, Ben Morris and Brian Call, and their success in the elk woods skyrocketed.

While Anthony was teaching his new hunting partners how to hunt and call elk, they were teaching him the value of teamwork and sacrificing for your partners. A brotherhood was born. The team began filming their hunts, and eventually the Gritty Bowmen was formed. Their goal continues to be to show the true meaning behind their love for hunting wild places. Since then, they have chased elk all over the backcountry in Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, and Utah.

In 2010, a new job opportunity brought Anthony from western Oregon to western Idaho. Since moving to Idaho, he has experienced the most cherished hunts of his life watching his wife and children take several muley bucks and bull elk, including a broken-up warrior of a bull by his 13 year old daughter last year! Anthony’s love for hunting is constantly evolving and serves as a constant reminder of the beauty his Father in Heaven has created for us so that we may have joy.

“I love helping and learning from fellow hunters and am honored and blessed to be part of the Elk101 team.”
