Nice addition Randy! We have rented those a few times and the convenience is tough to beat. Once it's loaded up, it doesn't take long to get the thing set or pack up and leave. It really allowed us to be mobile and move camp if we needed, which would never happen with a wall tent.

Thanks for the reminder Jason! Just got it put up.

Where are you hunting this year? You back in Colorado?

Here is the 2021 Update Thread. Use this thread as a place to check in and to post updates as to how things are going in your hunt. Heading out? On the road? Made it to camp and have cell service? Hearing bugles? Got one down? Let us know! It's a great way for those who aren't currently in the woods to live vicariously through you!

General Elk Hunting / Re: Colorado unit 49 archery

I have never hunted 49, but it's a beautiful area that I've camped in multiple times. I would highly suggest going back through the UEH course regarding e-scouting. If you have the right tools, it's not very techy at all and will be of way more help than going in blind.

Another thing to take a look at is the Colorado Hunting Atlas. It has quite a bit of information on the locations of summer range, road access, etc that you might find helpful: Colorado Hunting Atlas (colostate.edu)

Chances are, you aren't going to find a ton of people who have hunted the unit so I wouldn't expect a lot of guidance on where to go.

Adding that line is a simple thing to do, but then you'll have to adjust your pins too. If it were me, I'd still just wait until after the hunt to start tinkering.

At this point I wouldn't worry about changing something. 400 grains will definitely work. You can always tinker next year if you want, but I wouldn't change it up that close to a trip if I was you.

The Timberline's are excellent late season pants. If you're looking at Sitka, the Jetstream jacket is fantastic for later season as well. It's not as bulky as many jackets I've used, but it seems to be just as warm. I actually got it in a solid color so I can not only use it while hunting, but during the rest of winter as well. It makes spending that much on a jacket not hurt so bad  :-D

As far as layers go, there are a number of options out there. I've been using Under Armour for years and am still happy with it, but if you go that route you'll want to have multiple sets as they can get stinky, but they wick sweat really well. If you want a base layer you can wear daily that won't stink but doesn't wick as well, look into merino wool.
