Title: What did you do today to work towards your 2018 season?
Post by: DTP on December 11, 2017, 03:58:58 PM
It's never too early to start preparing for the 2018 season.
Typically during whitetail season and the winter I throttle back a little on workout intensity (I don't stop) and enjoy the holiday meals. ;)

This year I won't do that, so why not start the annual "what did you do today" thread a little early.

For those of your who are not familiar with it; please share what workout, cardio routine, or whatever you did for the day to prepare for your 2018 season.

Good luck everyone and remember "The man on top of the mountain didn't fall there." - Vince Lombardi.

I'll start......

After this last year I wanted to ramp up my weakest point and that's my legs.
So today was a leg day.

Leg presses 6 sets x 10
Leg curls 4 sets x 10
Leg extensions 4 sets x 10
Hack squats 3 sets x 10
Front squats 3 sets x 10
Lunges (racket ball course back and forth x 3)
Calves

Then i finished it up with a 15 minute inclined walk, 5 mile cardio bike ride, abs, and core!
I also through in 40 push ups for good luck!  :train:

Looking at stats and researching to see how I can hunt Wyoming elk for the 4th season in a row:)

Sure, hit me up on a day when I was somewhat 'forced' to hit a buffet for lunch while working. And let's just say I got my money's worth!

I have continued to work on cardio more than anything lately. It's definitely tough to keep it going after elk season passes, but I've tried to stay with it. I hate running, so I've been trying to do a bunch of weighted hikes or hit the treadmill and crank it up as steep as it goes. I've also been focusing on strength and flexibility in my hips and ankles. Those are weak spots for me and the hips can trigger low back pain as well, so I'm doing what I can to turn those areas around.

Just like every year, I'm hoping to head to this year's hunt feeling the best I ever have. We'll see how that goes!

Today got up and drove to my cardiac doctors appointment... Walked from my truck to the building and rode the elevator up to the 3rd floor... The nurses had to hear about the snake bite and the doctor told me everything heart wise is ok and not to play with snakes anymore.. I then retraced my steps and when home and took a long nap...

When I woke up I went out to the road and drug our empty trash containers back to where I took them from last night.. They were full last night... :train: :train: :upthumb: :upthumb:

I know my routine is noting exciting but at least I'm trying... :-D :-D

Today was a killer arm day.

Tris, bis, forearms, core, 1.5 mile jog, and 3 mile incline walk on the tread mill.

Feeling good, but it may not be fun pulling back my bow if a buck comes in tonight.

I had a busy day with hunting and family time, so I had to do a in house workout.

250 push ups
150 baby squats (I held my kid :haha: )
Flutter kicks
Leg lifts
sit ups

It felt good, but probably didn't counter balance the elk lumpia I had for dinner ;)

The "New Years Resolutioners" are out in full force.

I was able to get in a nice mile and a half run, mile inclined walk, good back workout, core, and abs.

I'm also going to try something new this year. Each month I am going to alternate some form of calisthenics after each workout.
This month I am doing 50 pushups.

I am thinking next month will be pull ups and March will be dips. Etc etc

It's a nice little burn out at the end of every workout!  :train:

I'm prepping as well, just in a different fashion that's not as exciting as Dan's  :-D

Continuing to put miles on either via the treadmill or outside when I can. Also really working on stretching and other injury prevention items. If I can continue to keep the pounds down, especially this time of year, and keep the body feeling good, I'll be in a good spot for this year! The nagging pain that occasionally shows up in my hips or back while hunting is going to be a non-issue this year.

I quit drinking beer. (For now). Well, most booze. It was getting me fat!

I am riding my mtn bike hard. Really red-lining my heart.   My cardio is my Achilles on the elk mountains.

I got a awesome ride in. I can tell Iím stronger. Got to the top without putting a foot to the ground.

Since the end of last season, I've continued the training, but now kicking it into high gear. I'm in the gym 4-5 days a week lifting weights and trying to get at least two 3-mile runs in per week.

Tonight I will hit the gym after work for back/biceps day and then take my son to basketball practice where I will make the best of that down time by knocking out my 3 miles on the school track.

Can't wait for September!

A long hike in the mountains with the pooch. Pretty much doing what i'll be doing for the hunt. The weather has to be horrible for me to skip this. I do about 355 days a year. The only thing that changes is the weight in the backpack.

Come hunting season and it's just another day. No adjustments needed.

I ran the 5K in 18:31, so I didn't mind eating a few goodies that coworkers brought in.  :train:

I've always been good for long distance running. The inverse of that is I have chicken legs... so I have to train legs a few times a week to prepare myself for the mountains.

I've been acquiring a few things I want for this season...some caribou gear-carnivore 3 game bags. a "Mytopo" custom map of an area we plan to backpack hunt. New Bee-Stinger stabilizer for my bow with quick disconnect. For Christmas I received a pair of Zeiss 8x42 camo binoculars and the ALPS bino harness. , plus a 2 man backpack tent.

Getting the gear ready during the colder months and planning to do a lot of hiking with a pack on come spring.

Any ďflatlandersĒ on this thread? I just want to know whose workouts I should pay attention to. Iím an aspiring Western hunter, but Iím taking the conditioning a little slow because of my age, other health issues, and working out hasnít been my thing in a while. Nonetheless, elk hunting is on my list.  I may start with something tamer, like antelope in 2018.

I'm doing all my training this year at sea level (sadly)
No worries though. My biggest focus areas come down to cardio, core, and legs.

If you can knock out some serious cardio workouts, then your acclimation time in the mountains will take much less time than someone who is out of shape.
BUILD THAT LUNG POWER!

The legs and core kind of go hand in hand. They are important no matter whether you're living at sea level or 10K, but it's a focus area for me in general when it comes to elk hunting.

Where would you consider antelope hunting?

Tonight was another killer leg workout.
After that I ran 1 1/2 miles, did incline walking for 25 minutes, core, abs, and pushups!

I'm feeling great and will probably start ramping up my workouts here soon.

You definitely need to step it up a bit Dan...everyone is a little tired of you slacking

Iíll be honest, Iíve been stepping things up a bit lately after reading about your 5k Dan. I hate running with a passion, but Iíve been running almost every day for the past week. The goal is to keep it going six days a week. Each day Iím trying to increase speed and/or time. I donít know what the end goal is yet, but I know itís going to make me feel better come September if I keep it going, so thatís the plan for now!

I gained a couple pounds during the holidays and was sick off and on in January so finally starting to be active again. Playing basketball for two hours 3 times a week right now. Watching my diet as well. Hope that will help shed some pounds.

That's awesome Derek. The nice thing is come September you may find yourself in the best shape you've been in years. Sometimes just adding in new things will help tremendously. Especially something like running 6x a week

I did another leg workout yesterday.

I've really been pushing some hard hard hard leg workouts, but they finally seem to be getting a little bit easier, or maybe the correct term is a little more comfortable.

I will by far have my strongest legs ever going into this year.

I have skinny legs for sure. Skinny, chicken legs.... but as long as they get me up and down the mountain (with an elk on my back) then it's all good!
My legs will be much stronger this year though.

I had a great shoulders, core, abs, and cardio workout today.
I had to get one last solid workout in because I will be in Vegas Friday through Sunday and I plan to EAT!

I've continued the running on the treadmill, picking up speed and/or time each day. Actually got outside today and ran the neighborhood, which includes some pretty good hills. Nowhere close to where I want to be yet, but it's slowly getting there. I've got some short term goals in mind now and some ideas of where I'd like to get to. The goal is to keep getting better every day until I get to that end goal, whatever that ends up being.

PS I still hate running and that probably won't ever change. But every time I'm running I keep envisioning how much better I'm going to feel this fall chasing elk through the woods. I've never felt that my conditioning limited me to where I can go in the mountains, but I'm hoping that the extra running will make it that much easier. If it's easier on the body, I won't be as worn out every evening, which makes it easier to get out of bed the next morning and also makes it much easier to stay positive during the hunt. When I get tired and worn out during a hunt it makes it much more difficult to stay positive. Time to eliminate the possibility!

1.5 mile run today. Can't believe I have been 'working up' to this. I haven't run for years, but have stayed in decent shape. But apparently there is decent shape and there's running shape. Let's just say Dan would have lapped me multiple times with the speed I ran it at

Going to keep bumping the speed and distance. I've got a 3 mile loop in my neighborhood that includes a lot of altitude change and my goal is to be running that multiple times a week. If I can be doing that consistently, I think it should make elk hunting even easier this year.

I'm documenting everything I'm doing with the plan to eventually share it here for everyone in a couple months. I've got a trip to sea level coming up in a few weeks where I'm hoping to compare running there to my altitude here at home (roughly 6,000 feet) to give people my opinion of the difference. I'll also be chasing turkeys around the mountains in April combined with some scouting, so I'm hoping to be able to share how I feel doing that after all of this running versus beforehand.

Ran 1.5 miles outside today with some decent elevation gains. Hereís a screen shot from my phone. Who knew the Topo Maps+ free app that I use when hunting would come in handy while running? Keeps track of distance as well as time. 12:10 for this loop. Not terrible, but not great. Iíd like to be able to keep this pace while expanding the distance to 3 miles with even more terrain change.

I dropped some points for this year.  I have a great friend that is 60 and has killed lots of elk.  He has helped me out in more ways than I can count, more than I could ever repay him.  So I shared my points to get him a le tag while he is still able to hike good.  I have friends that have drawn Wasatch the last two years, so we have some good recent intel to draw from.  I hunted it in High School 20+years ago so there is some nostalgia for me also.  Hoping for the hunt of a lifetime for a hunter that has always put others in front to be the shooter before himself.

I'm on day 10 of the Whole30 diet. Trying it out in support of my wife's efforts. No dairy, sugar, legumes, grains or any processed foods for 30 days. Feeling great at day 10, although I will admit it is tough to stick to this diet of having literally NOTHING to eat! I find myself in my office at lunch eating plain turkey meat and plain carrots and if I'm really feeling wild maybe I'll have some salted almonds. I've never eaten this "clean" before and it feels really good. It is tough, but easier than I thought it would be.

I am also sticking to my increased gym routine of 6 days per week. Last night I had a great back & biceps workout and helped coach my wife through her second day at the gym. I have no doubt I'll be in the best shape of my life come September! I hope you are all able to find the motivation to do the same and share your success stories.

I've still been running six days a week, but three days ago my knee began to hurt while running. It's been getting worse each day when I run, so I'm guessing I'm going to have to slow things down a bit unfortunately. I've still got the same goals, it just might take a little longer to get there. Luckily I started when I did instead of waiting until the summer!

As a side note, anyone ever deal with 'Runner's Knee' before? It sounds like exactly what I'm dealing with.

Nice job with the running! I just took up running a couple years ago after a lifetime of hating it. I've been wondering when I'm going to start getting running injuries like this, but (knock on wood) hope it never happens! My son runs HS cross country and track and has similar knee pain when he trains hard (running). From what we've been able to find out, it sounds like it may be an issue with his "gait" and the way his foot hits the ground (pronation?). There's a running shop here in Boise with some fancy gadgets that can measure how your foot lands and the recommend a certain type of shoe to counteract whatever is "wrong" with your gait. Just a thought. Maybe you need some new shoes or inserts to help make things land more comfortably.

Nice job on the 3D shoot Dan!

Well, my running is being put on hold for the time being. Gave it a day off and went for a 1.5 mile run on Friday. The run felt good on the knee, but itís been really sore since. Time to come up with a new plan of attack.

My opinion. Stop running. Your knees will thank you. Put some weight in your pack and go hiking. Another thing is biking. I feel more of a burn in my quads trying to bike up a hill than hiking with a weighted pack.

I agree... I've be finding cardio workouts that reduce the pounding on the knee.....I enjoy biking a lot. It is killer if you do it right.

I agree. With how much my knee is still hurting, the running is done for now. I hate running anyway, but I wanted to bump it up from my walking/hiking that I had been doing in hopes of shedding a few extra pounds and breath a little easier in the mountains. I might have to give the bike a shot...either that, or maybe an elliptical?

Ellipticals don't feel natural to me.

When I am not biking I am doing the stairmaster, bikes, or inclined walking.

Derek my knees are shot so I use a elliptical a lot. I've wore two out. I start with the ellip then move to the bike once the snow is gone and the roads dry out which will be another month and a half around here. I'll start hiking hills mid summer and back off hiking closer to season. I've kept hiking till close to season before and paid the price for it half way through season. Sore knees suck while hunting. I'm not in animal like Dan anymore I  just move a little slower now days.

Woke up, 100 squats no weight. Up and down our stairs at the house 30lbs twenty times, push-ups, weighted situps, side planks, twenty min jog. Finished 10 squats five times with 50lb pack then 25 no weight.  Tomorrow is a ruck with 50lbs and I think the trail is 3.4 or 4.4 flatish rolly ground.  I usually will walk a portion of the river bank with tons of river rock and it makes stepping with weight a little challenging

Lately I have been carrying my kettlebells in my hands while hiking. My go-to weight has been 8kg per hand. This weight strikes a good balance between grip strength and climbing benefit. Then every now and again, I carry the 12kg bells and go steeper ans shorter.

It's very challenging and I have really been enjoying it. Has anyone else tried this?

Just getting started on the whole ďelk shapeĒ business. Got home and shoveled 3Ē of dripping wet snow off the sidewalks then off to the gym for the first time in about 10 years! Man oh man I am not what I was in my younger years, legs feel like jello. Baby step, started light just to get a feel for things and will progress as I go. If this snow ever decides to leave MN it will be time to start pack training on the non weight days. Just wish I had a mountain in my backyard instead of a wheat feild

Back to working out after giving the knee a break for two and a half weeks. Took a 1.5 mile walk with a weighted pack yesterday and ran 1.5 miles today. No pain so far! Going to tone down the running to only a couple of days a week and see how that works combined with the weighted walks.

As I hit the big 60 this year consistency in training has become more important than ever for me if I want to continue chasing these amazing critters. Today was supposed to be an off day at the gym so my wife and I decided it was a good day to go shed hunting near our house, I put on my Blacks creek pack loaded it with around 20 lbs and headed into the woods . It is amazing how wearing the pack and stepping  over deadfalls, ducking under low branches and brush while searching for sheds can imitate the same thing we are doing when we hunt and I got to spend some quality time with my lovely wife. Also this week we have found 6 sheds the biggest measured 69.5 inches.

Got another 1.5 mile weighted hike in and did some more shooting with the bow. I took too much time away with the bow...the muscles used to shoot are sore after 20 or so arrows right now and my shooting is definitely sub-par. Got a lot of work to do ahead of turkey season in two weeks.

They had a good playlist going and they are constantly talking (they say to make sure you are breathing).

Great group of people, I had to tell them why I was joining the class and they all thought I was a little crazy when I said to be in shape for elk hunting! I can see this being a game changer in reaching my goal this year for elk hunting, dropping 45 lbs minimum and way more leg strength.

Another spin class in the books for me tonight. I think I really am gunna like this class! Great group of people to keep me motivated towards my goals. Wish I could do more than 1 a week but 1 is better than none.

Step ups for days. At least it seemed like it. No weight then added 20lbs after 40 step ups each leg up to 60 then back down to no weight.  Pushups, moderate weighted cardio, burpeeís, and weighted sit ups.

I spent the last few days hiking around Kansas looking for turkeys and sheds.

it was a nice little break on my body, so now I am ready to get back and hit it hard.
I'll be starting off with a killer back workout today.  I am also going to try to put on a clean 5lbs over the next 2 months.

Squat
Back ext
Leg curl
Leg ext
Overhead press
Chest press
Arm curl
Triceps pull downs
Sit-ups
10 minutes stairmaster

All 3x10 except stairmaster

My question is, is it better to do all 3 sets of each exercise in a row or do a full round of each for a set?

Iíve done both ways and doing all exercises in a row for a set 3 time seems to keep my heart rate up but doesnít seem to fatigue the muscles as much. I stagger arms and legs and do the stairmaster, treadmill, or spin bike last.

I really enjoy planks. Weighted, hands and legs up planks, regular, etc
I know my ab workouts hit core too, but I count that separate.(not sure why)
I've got so many different ab workouts that it's not even funny. I like to change up my ab routine every few weeks to continuously shock it  :upthumb:

Yesterday was a full body weight workout and also tried some on the planks that dtp (dan I think) was talking about.

Today I went back to my summer part time job as a yard tenant for fleet farm and just guessing threw about 500 bags of wood mulch, dirt, and peat moss. Nothing like getting paid to get a workout!

Hit the gym yesterday and learned a new exercise called 'Man Makers'. The cool thing is that you can do them anywhere with just a set a dumbbells. Basically you start with the dumbbells in your hands and standing up. Go to the ground with your hands like you are going to do a burpee, but still holding the dumbbells. Kick your legs back to a plank or pushup position and once in a plank, you do a one arm row on each side followed by a pushup, then jump your legs forward to your hands, stand up and do a shoulder press with the dumbells. I did this 10 times, then 8, 6, 4, and 2 and mixed in a chest super set with it. This will get the heart rate up for sure and you end up using a bunch of different muscle groups in the process! If you want to do some cardio that isn't on a treadmill or exercise bike, give this one a shot.

If you want to do some cardio that isn't on a treadmill or exercise bike, give this one a shot.

what sick effer invented that?!!  :D

just what the burpee needed..to be harder.

Seriously!!!

I was looking to add a little spice to my leg workout today, so I Googled and stumbled into doing a "Leg Day with Steve Weatherford (NY Giants): The Explosive Legs Workout."
- Hang Cleans
- Back Squat
- Sumo Squat
- Alternating Jump Lunge
- Single-leg Extension
- Single-leg Curl
- High Box Jump

Legs are feeling pumped!

Today consisted of shoveling about 5 heaping wheelbarrow loads of rock out from around the house and replacing with wood mulch. Then to the gym for a good workout squats, bench press, skull crushers, leg curls, rows, arm curls, sit-ups, and planks. Time is running short before the season starts time to start hitting it hard!

Happy Memorial Day everyone! All gave some but some gave it all. Thank you to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy what we have now. And also thank you to all the other service members out there protecting our freedom!

Not much for conditioning other than looking out the windshield as I traveled around the state today. I did manage to find a boot dealer that carried Crispi boots and tried on a few different pairs and have narrowed my search a little bit more.

I also picked up the supplies I needed to complete my diy hammock under quilt. Hammock showed up yesterday and I made the quilt tonight when I got home. Got it all set up and sleeping under the stars tonight for a test drive. Hope all goes well and the rain holds off or I am going to get wet with no tarp over me yet.

Good night

Sitting on my butt with an ice pack on my knee. Doctors orders.

Very sore. She thinks itís early arthritis:(

Its been sore for ten days. I hit the bowrange thurs and my knee clicked(popped) as I was limping around the arrow course. It almost dropped mine in my tracks. It hurt bad!  I limped slowly to my truck and called my doc.

Funny, I think that pop helped. The soreness was diminished the dry next morning. Getting better daily. Getting old sucks.

Yesterday I went hiking in Kentucky ďelk countryĒ.

It was a great time except for the humidity and the ticks....
I grew up around ticks, but yesterday was one of the worst experiences with them.  I must have somehow gone through a nest of some sort or was just extremely unlucky because when I finally realized it I had at least 10 that were already bit into me, and then pulled off another 20-30 from my clothes.... needless to say I got the heebee geebies from that and probably have lime disease (hope not, itís not that bad here)

Do you treat your clothes with Permethrin?  It really helps.  I was in a very tick infested area in Idaho twice in the last month and none stayed on me.  I literally watched one on my leg crawl for a second and fall off.  My hunting partner did not treat and had a couple attach to him.

i needed to pump the brakes.i hurt my knee badly.  i am on week 2 of rest and ice packs.
my bow-range doesnt look like Dan's.  i have to hike down and up hills.  there is no set shooting range.  my range is all walking trails and you come up to a target.
it's an archery course.  so what i usually have to do is:  hike to some random target nobody likes.  i just post up there and keep pounding that target.   i have to keep vigilant and let people "play thru" if needed.

Goal from now til September 4 is to either be in the gym lifting, at a spin class, or hiking. Everyone says be in the best shape of your life when going elk hunting, I can now say I am better now than when I was wrestling and playing football in high school!

i shot my bow a lot yesterday.

i should have quit when i was ahead.  i only have a 20 and 50 pin. :)

i pushed my left side a bit much.  i was shooting great, then it fell off, and i tried to chase back that glory.  diminishing returns for sure.  i got tired and the wheels fell off the wagon.

lessons learned.  i just want to be back to my old shooting form and my feeble mind doesn't seem to want to accept that it is gonna take some time.  i am not a patient person.

i will let my bow arm rest.  i am back on my bike tonight!!

met a new friend.  lets call him Chuck.  (because that's his name)

i have been living a sedentary 2 weeks, resting my sore knee.

yesterday was the day.  i had to get out.  i met chuck up on top by the lake.  he said, let me show you a few more trails.  Chuck led up, pedaling our mtn bikes some gnarly goat trails!!  bunny hopping boulders. dropping off of small cliffs.  it was fun.

but have you ever exercised so much you almost had flu-like symptoms.  headache, a mild fever, aches?  i dehydrated myself!!  i drank lots of water and some of my stash of hiking powder.  i fell asleep at 8:30. :)

today, i feel like i went 3 rounds with a MMA fighter.  knee is okay!!  everything else?  sore. :D

Leg extensions 4 sets x 10
Hack squats 3 sets x 10
Front squats 3 sets x 10
Lunges (racket ball course back and forth x 3)
Calves

Then i finished it up with a 15 minute inclined walk, 5 mile cardio bike ride, abs, and core!
I also through in 40 push ups for good luck!  :train:

Ima getting ready for local deer season...😁😁
The extent of my ďworkoutĒ goes something like bowhunter1. I walk out my driveway and down the road to our mailbox at least five or six times daily depending on how many times our little dog wants to outside. This consists of about .075 of a mile and requires at least 20 minutes. Ima carrying a pound or so dog lead plus 210 pounds give or take a few...
I should be ready come deer season but if not thereís always my Ranger to fall back on.
I forgot something. The only time I get to drive now is my Ranger at the deer camp since my driving privileges have been revoked by my wife and kids.. :downthumb:

I have still be doing my 2 miles before work M-F.

M W F I jog carrying 5lb dumbells in my hands
Tu / Thur I hike carrying 20lb dumbells in my hands, doing curls and flys and shoulder lifts

If you think jogging with 5lbs in each hand for 2 miles is easy, give it a try

You are correct.  This is the "mini" incline at Philip S. Miller park in Castle Rock.  I enjoy the Manitou incline as well, but it doesn't work as well with my schedule and it's not on my way home from work.

Flatlander Iowa res here so no real elevation change or altitude here. My curresnt routine is stadium stairs, 50 reps up and down (decent size stadium) mixed with 10 squats and 10 push ups after every 10 sets of steps. Up to 45lb pack now and climbing. Doing that 3 times per week along with 45min to 1 hour of Airdyne / elliptical / treadmill 3 times per week. Mix in 150 push ups per day and P90x Ab Ripper a few times per week. That is it so far. Increasing pack weight and adding in more weight routines over the next few months along with longer hikes over country. My son's Colorado elk hunt will be here before we know it! Can't wait!👍

7.42 miles with my pack, weighs 35 lbs. Also lost 23 lbs so far this spring/summer, more to loose. Want to shed another 10. Shot my bow, everyday try for at least 15 shots. Lift weights to strengthen arms and do ab exercises for my core.
My resolve... do not put that winter weight back on!!

All jokes aside, this Base has an unreal gym and being away from the family for three weeks will definitely keep me focused on training.

I feel your pain.  I was on track to be in the best hunting shape of my life for two epic multi week hunts planned this fall.  Then I tore my MCL (for the second time in my life) and I'm trying to figure out how things are going to go.  I still plan on hunting and packing out an elk or two...I just might have to have my leg in a immobilizing splint or brace and hike around like a stiff legged wacko.  But nothing is going to stop me from going on these hunts....NOTHING!

Throw this in to mix things up...
+ = throw in a weighted pack to up the intensity
++ = Add a set of d-bells with the weighted pack
Do two or three rounds, take about 5 deep breaths between each exercise rest 1 to 3 minutes between rounds depending on fitness level.
15 minute Ab Ripper by P-90X

Step ups ++Wide Front Pull Ups +
Walking Lunge ++
Military Push Ups + (narrow, hands directly under shoulders)Squats ++Reverse Grip Chin Up +Back Lunge to high knee + or ++Wide Push Ups +
**One option is to do a two round session at lunch, with a 5 minute warm up it should only take about 25 to 30 minutes to complete....minus the ab ripper work out. After work, do the ab ripper and another two or three rounds
** Up the game by timing each round - increasing reps and decreasing the amount of time per round really ups the cardio aspect and overall intensity.

31-minute AMRAP
With a partner

8 thrusters 95lb
6 rope climbs
11 36Ē box jumps

One partner carries a 45lb sandbag 400 meters while the other works.

Headed into the alpine with the family tomorrow to try and get our 5-year-old on top of our neighborhood 12,965-foot peak on Sunday.
