Hunt Planner / Idaho Pioneer unit
« on: June 05, 2020, 01:04:41 PM »
Didn't draw Wyoming and decided to give Idaho a try this year. Hunted Colorado the last 2 years and it was pretty wooded where we were.  Looking at Idaho Pioneer unit it looks like there is a lot of open area.  Just wondering if anyone has ever hunted these units and if I should be prepared for more of a spot and stalk type of hunt this year?  The last 2 years I don't think I used my binos more than 3 times.

Go where others will not go.  Straight up away from the trail heads.

I had a pair for the 2018 season and they worked awesome but for the 2019 season they leaked every day in the elk woods.  I wasn't able to get them to stop so I upgraded to crispi.  I will still wear them on dry days outside but that is all they are good for now.

I think I would prefer a either sex tag in Colorado in archery season.  Just wasn't sure what other states if any have OTC rifle tags.

Hunt Planner / 2020 2nd trip for a rifle hunt?

This coming year will be my third year heading west for elk.  I was able to fill the freezer this year with a cow in Colorado.  I am planning on heading back to Colorado for archery in 2020 and was wondering which state would be best to come back to for a OTC rifle hunt?  I'm just starting my research and just looking for state suggestions to get me started.

My goal is to drop 10 lbs.  Im at 213 now.  Also build up my endurance.  8 miles on the bike today and I want to do that at least 5 times a week.

April update--   Had a setback for the last couple weeks due to my back.  Even with that I'm down to 209 lbs but the bike and workouts have been on hold.   Injection last week so fingers are crossed I can get back at it by the end of the week.

May- June update--    Back on track. down to 206 and back on the bike.  Pa turkey season helped out with hiking around with a 21 lbs in my pack..

July -- 202.8 on the bike 8 miles with 7.5 lbs on each leg.  Calling is coming along. Scouting quite a bit on the computer have a few back up spots picked out few more to go.   Come on September!!!
