Hunting Gear / Re: New scope

I think that a lot of that is shooting loads that have been tailored to that specific rifle. Very
Consistent if I do my part. Glad I had powder, primers, and bullets squirreled away as finding reloading materials are quite the adventure these days.

Hunting Gear / New scope

So I added a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 PA scope with a BDC reticle to my browning 300 win mag a bolt. Went to the range and dialed it in at 100. Four holes touching and the other two within a 1/2. Close enough for a minute of elk. dialed in to 200 yards and three within an inch, dialed in to 300 yards and three within an inch and a half. Not enough space to shoot out past that on this trip. Will have to find a spot out on the Pawnee Grasslands to stretch out for a 400 yard confirmation. That is about as far as I go to practice. Never take that shot when hunting. Am very impressed with this scope.

I have been putting in for AF011R for the last six years ( one pp required ). This year I put in for AM011R since I had 6pps. My second choice was AF011. Net result still getting points. Now have enough points might as well go for something better so we will see.

Well said. 90% of all hunters, hunt within 1 mile of the road. 10% of all hunters account for 90% of all animals taken.  Moral of the story is get more than 5280 feet off the road and it becomes far less crowded. JMHO

I have bow hunted elk in Colorado with some success. I regularly rifle hunt elk in Colorado with good success. Thought to myself why not hunt in the peak of the rut with a muzzleloader.

Santa brought me a CVA Optima, Williams western precision sights, Thor 250 grain Lightnings, some federal 209a primers, and a couple of cans of Blackhorn 209.
With 19 preference points Im not concerned about getting a tag. Still holding out to rifle hunt GMU 2 one day. So well see what comes together in 2021.
