Well everything I can get with a Montana sportsman license, (bear, elk, deer, upland bird, and throw a couple turkey tags on there as well) then of course I have to put in for Sheep, Goat, Moose and Bison, however my chances of those are always slim. But there will be some duck and goose hunting as well as coyotes, wolves, and a lion.

I am one of those guys who can not stand sitting in a blind all day. I have never used one of those decoy hats or decoys that attach to your bow, but I do know guys that have and were successful. I prefer to just get out and spot them then play the wind and belly crawl close enough to make a shot. I takes forever sometimes but its a ton of fun and sure beats sweating it out in a blind.

Been out of the loop lately. I had to spend a month away from home for work so I started doing HIIT workouts in my hotel gym. My goal was to increase cardio and that has helped tremendously.  Currently I am doing 30 minute HIIT workouts 6 days a week and when I am at work I am hitting the weights or hiking with weight on my back. I am blessed to have a job that allows me the freedom to get out and get some workouts in.


Weight is staying the same which I am pleased with, I don't need to lose any as it is.


September will be here before we know it and I am excited to fill my Missouri Breaks archery tag this year.

April update: I am a little late on the April update because I had to be out of town for a month for work and just got home. While I was gone I added some hiking and trail running but feel like I still have a ways to go. Now that I am home I can get back on my wife's Peleton bike and add some different types of cardio as well. I plan on using one of Cory's recommended work out plans on the University of Elk Hunting starting this evening. So far it has been good and I have noticed an increase in my cardio but I want to kick it up a notch.

Checking in: I have been doing some type of HIIT training three times a week to increase the cardio, it has been tough but getting better.

Treadmill at highest incline while holding a 45 pound plate in each hand. Slow and steady works great.

So I am not exactly sure how to measure this however my goal is to increase my cardio. I already workout daily but I hate doing any type of cardio. Having hunted elk the last ten years or so from New Mexico to Montana I know how important cardio is. I have been lucky and always been able to find elk bedded and make a stalk to get into range for the shot but I have also lost some opportunities at some big bulls because I could not climb that hill fast enough. My goal is to be able to climb the hills with ease.


Since reading this post my plan is to start hiking with weight on my back at least a couple times a week. If I can't make it out to the field then I plan to put the treadmill at an angle and walk with some weight. As I improve I plan on speeding up.


I am guessing that the only way to measure this is knowing where I started and how I feel as compared to how I feel come September when it is game time. I know in between now and then with spring bear season right around the corner I will be doing some climbing and hiking so that will be my gauge as to my starting point.

I agree with others the Black Ovis Bags have held up to two elk and four deer so far and showing no signs of wear.

You can't go wrong with the AGC. I love mine and have put it through its paces from crawling on it on my belly chasing antelope to elk hunting in the cold temps. it has held up well.
