General Elk Hunting / Re: Colorado or Oregon

It is going to be busy where every you go. If I were you I would use that extra time you would take up driving to Oregon and just hunt longer in CO. The key is to get off the roads by a mile or 2. Like others have said the eagle cap has been bumper to bumper with horse trailers and there is plenty of roads that go through all the units so pressure was really bad this past year and it will most likely get worse next year.

Hi all,
I just signed up for the course and am loving it but I noticed some of the links in the scouting module aren't working specifically the link that shows burn areas. Not sure if I'm the only one having this problem or if the links are old and need to be updated?

Thanks,

Hunt Planner / Snake river unit eastern Oregon
« on: March 18, 2021, 02:15:09 PM »
The past years I have been hunting in the Imnaha unit but each year there is more and more pressure even 2 miles off the road. I have finally decided to focus on hunting the snake river area since there is way less road access. I typically bivy hunt and make trips lasting 3-5 days and was wondering if anyone knows of decent trailheads or spots to checkout this spring for scouting. Any info you guys are willing to share on the snake river unit would be greatly appreciated. If you could please private message me.

Thanks,

Hunting Gear / Kenetrek MTN guide vs MTN extreme
« on: March 17, 2021, 06:53:13 PM »
Hello all,
I am planning on hunting in the snake river unit in Oregon this September. The unit in particular is know for being really steep rough country and I was wonder what boot would preform better in the steeper shale mountains. I was leaning more towards the mtn guide boots because of the heel height but was wonder what you guys think.

Thanks,

I used the easton axis 5mm (10.7 gpi)  300 spine and 125grain broadheads and loved them but if you are looking for something that packs more punch I suggest the easton FMJ 5mm (12.0 gpi) 300 spine also with a 125 grain tip. Both will get the job done. Also if you are getting down to the nitty gritty Gold Tip has a FOC calculator that is very helpful.

It all comes down to your budget. Iif you are looking for an entry level bow (under $500) Bear Cruzer G2 or Diamond Edge Infinite are both really good bows with awesome adjustability and very user friendly because of their brace height.
